Castronovo Dark Chocolate - Sierra Nevada, Colombia - Rare Cacao Collection
Castronovo’s Sierra Nevada Dark chocolate bar is similar to the dark milk bar in that it harvests the beans from the same location, bringing a surprising story. The cacao is harvested from the slope of a coastal mountain range in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada. To collect these valuable beans, harvesters muse endure a whole day journey along the mountainside to harvest the cacao beans. They are then returned on the backs of mules.
When the beans are brought back, they are then combined with organic cane sugar and organic cocoa butter, coming together to create a world-class dark chocolate bar.
Castronovo does not use any artificial ingredients, sweeteners, or natural flavors which is why many are surprised by their unique aromas and flavors. As you breathe in the dark chocolate bar, you will undoubtedly pick up on some orange. However, that scent is translated to apricot, caramel, and a nuttiness when you bite into the smooth dark chocolate.
This bar has won two awards, both silver at the 2015 and 2016 Academy of Chocolate Awards.
If you love this dark chocolate bar but are hoping for something a bit sweeter or lighter, you should visit its sister, the Castronovo Sierra Nevada Dark Milk.
